Local History on Instagram

We invite you to watch a short video made as a part of the project "Local history on Instagram", which was realized by the Krzyżowa Foundation in 2021.

The video uses the allotment garden colony in Leipzig Johannistal to show that these gardens are political places.

The allotment garden side in Johannistal ist the oldest allotment garden colony in Saxony and was built according to the model of gardens for poor working families. The author uses the history of the place to show in what way allotment gardens can be open spaces for democratic actions and how politics and society influence their development.

The film tells about an old, 17th-century Jewish cemetery in Cieszyn, Poland.

The author takes us for a walk around the cemetery, where there are still numerous tombstones and the funeral home. However, it is a place that is not properly cared for and respected by local residents. Presenting its story, the author expresses the hope that a memorial site dedicated to the Jewish community of Cieszyn will be created at the funeral home.

The video explain the history of places in Berlin-Steglitz, which remind of different resistance groups.

The author show with her video different historical places and explain the history from Berlin-Steglitz between Stronhold of Nazis and Place of Meetings from different resistance groups like the Kreisauer Circle, the group around 20th of july 1944, "Onkel Emil" and the Red Orchestra.

We invite you to watch a short video made as a part of the project "Local history on Instagram", which was realized by the Krzyżowa Foundation in 2021.

The film is about the Warsaw Uprising and is composed of shots of contemporary Warsaw and historical photos.

We can see an ordinary housing estate in the Ochota district of Warsaw, which was the scene of bloody insurgent fights. The memory of these events is still present in the image of the estate, in the form of commemorative plaques and the unchanged street layout.
