A permaculture garden workshop was held on 25-26 June 2021. During the workshop you could learn a lot about how to do things in the garden without doing too much! How to let natural processes do the work instead of us. Among other things, we wondered how the soil can be left undisturbed, and how everything - apart from the weeds - can grow like yeast.
In the workshop we created and layered vegetable patches, talked about growing plants and setting up Guilds (good and bad plant society), made compost tea and hot 18-day compost using the Berkeley method. Tomatoes, cucumbers, beetroot and other greens are all growing for us now!

What is school (as an institution and as a place)? How should we, as a society, treat it? Is there room for dialogue and concern for the welfare of students and teachers? What needs of the school and people who make it up have been reminded to us by the pandemic?
On 28 June, a meeting with Prof. Jacek Pyżalski was held under the title: "Between the institution and the space of relations. What have we learnt about school in the era of the pandemic".
It was the second meeting in a series of meetings organised as part of the 'Laboratory of Dialogue' project carried out by the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Poland.
The first camp of the "Closer to Nature" summer camp in Krzyżowa started on 28 June. We are very happy that so many people wanted to spend their first summer week with us.
Our participants of the summer camp had no time for boredom. They got to know nature and even tasted it, practiced yoga, took photos with the pinhole photography method, made jewellery, dyed fabrics and even made their own rag dolls. But most of all - they had a lot of fun. And we had fun with them !
The programme of the camp, led by our experienced team from the International Youth Meeting Centre, included:
- language animation,
- integration activities,
- outdoor games and outdoor education,
- creative and ecological activities,
- creative workshops inspired by textiles,
- painting, plastic arts,
- hiking in the Krzyżowa area,
- learning about permaculture and working in an organic garden.

We recommend the article "1990: The year when Europe as we know it today was born" by Dr Łukasz Kamiński, which appeared on wiez.pl. The text was written as part of the project "1990 / Year One. The democratic transformation in former Eastern Bloc countries" carried out by "Krzyżowa" Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe as a part of program "Europe for Citizens - Memory of European Past" and is co-financed by European Commission.
(…) Our memory of the fall of communism is dominated by the events of 1989. We remember the round table in Poland, the 'Baltic chain', the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. Meanwhile, many key events took place in the following year.
