From 7th to 12th November, 37 students from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the Ivan Franko University in Lviv and the Alice-Salomon School (Vocational School for Health and Social Work) in Hannover met in Krzyżowa for an exchange.
The entire week was dedicated to the challenging topic of "Migration and Flight". Already while getting to know each other, there was space for personal family migration or refugee stories. The tour of Krzyżowa highlighted the migration and flight stories of people who have lived (the Moltke-family) and are currently living here (ukrainian families).
The inhabitants of Krzyżowa and people visiting the historical palace-park complex on the territory of the Krzyżowa Foundation have been able to use a 5-station open-air gym for a few days now. The project was carried out as part of the 'WzMOCnij swoje otoczenie' programme organised by the Polish Power Grid.
On 18 and 19 November, the results of the ‘1990/Year One’ project were presented in Berlin during two events aimed at teachers from Germany and Poland.
On 18 November, at Schönhausen Palace, during a conference organised for German and Polish teachers, Dr Robert Żurek talked to Markus Meckel, East German oppositionist, participant in the Central Round Table and, after the first free elections, GDR foreign minister. The starting point for the discussion was the German experience of the democratic transition initiated in 1990.
At the Palace, the exhibition ‘1990. Birth of a New Europe’ was also presented.

From November 21 to 23, St. Rapahel Gymnasium from Heidelberg and I Liceum Ogólnokształcące from Jelenia Góra, which have already been in exchange for 15 years, visited Krzyżowa. The exchange had already started two days earlier in Jelenia Góra, with the accommodation of the German students in Polish host families. In Krzyżowa there was then time to get to know each other better through integration games and to learn about the history of the place. In international small groups, the exchange participants dealt with their visit to the former concentration camp Groß-Rosen, with human rights and with the term "resistance". A workshop in the exhibition "Courage and Reconciliation" connected the historical events with current topics and issues. For those interested, there was also a candlelight reading of the farewell letters of Freya and Helmuth James von Moltke at the House on the Hill on the second evening, which touched the participants very much. On Wednesday the group went further to Wrocław.
Great that you were there and see you next time!
