It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Ewa Unger - a person with great achievements in building friendly Polish-German relations, long-term president of the Wroclaw Club of Catholic Intelligentsia. Mrs. Ewa Unger played an extremely important role in the history of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe; she was a co-founder of the Foundation and for many years the President of the Board.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mrs. Ewa,

The Management Board and the Team of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe

Ladies and gentlemen, Dear Friends,

The Krzyżowa Foundation has been carrying out its educational activities for 30 years. As a non-profit organization we do not earn money, but only thanks to grants and co-funding we can provide the center and pay salaries to our employees. However, when we do not carry out projects, we do not conduct youth exchanges, we have no sources of income.

The coronavirus epidemic in Poland and worldwide affects our lives individually, but also the functioning of many institutions and organizations. Health and safety of people is a priority for everyone. For this reason, the activities of organisations such as ours have been suspended.

The Krzyżowa Foundation has now found itself in a very difficult situation - not being able to carry out its mission and statutory tasks for some time there are no sources of income. We already know that in the most intense months of work - March, April, May, June - our centre will be empty.

Ladies and gentlemen,

In response to the decision of the Minister of National Education, a non-public educational institution, operating as part of the International Youth Meeting Centre in Krzyżowa, suspends teaching and educational activities until 24 May 2020.

We would also like to inform you that in accordance with the recommendations of the Government Crisis Management Team, in the interest of our guests' health and safety, during this period the exhibitions and palace in Krzyżowa will be closed to the public. These actions are aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus epidemic in Poland.

Annemarie Franke, Supervisory Board of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe

Andreas Möckel was one of the founders of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and supported the Krzyżowa Foundation until the end, both professionally and socially. This is evidenced by the annual report of the Kreisau-Initiative (Kreisau-Initiative e. V.), where we can find a report on the annual celebration of 20 July 1944 in Würzburg prepared by Andreas Möckel, 92 years old, shortly before his death.

Until his retirement in 1992, Andreas Möckel was Professor of Special Education at the University of Würzburg. His achievements as a scientist and teacher are highly valued.
