Professor Włodzimierz Borodziej - former member of the Council of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe, historian specialising in modern history, professor at the Historical Institute of Warsaw University, editor-in-chief of "Polish Diplomatic Papers" published by the Polish Institute of International Affairs, chairman of the Scientific Councils of the Imre Kertész Kolleg in Jena (since 2016) and the House of European History in Brussels (2009-2019) died on 11 July 2021 at the age of 64.
The Więź.pl portal published an interview conducted last year with Prof. Włodzimierz Borodziej by Dr. Robert Żurek, Managing Director of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe. The conversation was originally recorded as a podcast in the framework of the project "A united Europe was not achieved and we had war" realized by "Krzyżowa" Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe with the support of Regional Representation of European Commission in Wrocław.
We are very pleased to inform you that the Managing Director of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe, Robert Żurek, has been awarded a postdoctoral degree in history. The degree was conferred by a resolution of the Council of the History Discipline of the Pedagogical University in Cracow on 16.12.2020 on the basis of his scientific achievement "The Roman Catholic Church in Poland and the Western and Northern Lands 1945-1948". The habilitation diploma is dated 11 June 2021.
Robert Zurek is a graduate in history and Catholic theology from the Free University of Berlin. He received his doctorate in Halle. He was a scholarship holder at the German Historical Institute in Warsaw (2003-2005) and then a researcher and deputy director of the Center for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Berlin (2006-2012). From 2013 to 2016 he was director of the Wrocław branch of the Institute of National Remembrance.

Dr Urszula Pękala, Deputy Head of the Memorial Site of the Krzyżowa Foundation, has appointed to the scientific council of "theologie.geschichte: Zeitschrift für Theologie und Kulturgeschichte". It is an open access peer-reviewed journal that provides an international discussion platform for women and academics in a wide variety of disciplines; the subject matter concerns the meeting point of culture, society, politics, history and religion. The articles are published in German, English and French.
