Dramatic scenes have been taking place on Poland's border with Belarus for many weeks now. As is the case with many issues, Polish society is divided and polarised. Some people are outraged at the ruthless actions of the Polish authorities and uniformed forces towards the refugees, while others defend these actions, denying their brutal nature, or maintaining that only a tough stance can stop the problem escalating under Alexander Lukashenko's regime and the drama of successive groups of refugees, who are growing in number.
We realise that the situation is difficult and complicated. We know that there are no simple recipes for how to defend the border effectively and how to resist the destructive actions of the Belarusian regime without breaching national and international law and without violating human rights. We live in a world of difficult choices. So what should we do? How should we behave?
The second meeting of the Council of "Krzyżowa" Foundation of the new term took place on 16 October in Krzyżowa. It was the first time when members of this body had an opportunity to take part in debates in the Foundation's seat. First meeting was held online due to pandemic. The new members of the Foundation Council had the opportunity to get to know both the place where the Foundation operates and the team that creates it.
A stationary meeting of the Foundation's Board was also held the day before.
We hope that in 2022, we will also be able to meet in Krzyżowa.
In the autumn, we traditionally welcome new volunteers to Krzyżowa. Two new fantastic friends - Charlotte Marquardt and Mykyta Nazarow - have been with us for several weeks.
Where they came from, why they came to Krzyżowa and what are their first impressions - you can read about this in short self-presentations.
We are very happy that Charlotte and Mykyta are already with us and we wish them that the time they will spend in Krzyżowa will be creative, interesting and full of good emotions!
