Krzyżowa for Ukraine

A beautiful sunny week is behind us and we are thinking about it intensely especially today when the weather made an April Fool's joke and covered Krzyżowa with snow. But just a few days ago our younger guests from Ukraine were enjoying the beautiful weather relaxing on deckchairs, playing football and running around the neighbourhood.

We are very happy that all pupils and students are very enthusiastic about going to Polish schools. And now we can confirm with great joy that we also have a comprehensive educational offer for the youngest children.

This week we managed to complete all the procedures and from Monday, children from Ukraine will join our kindergarten, " Green Land ". All the youngest, who with their parents escaped the war to the municipality of Świdnica, will be able to stay under the care of the nursery school staff during the opening hours. Another piece of great news is that two ladies who came to us from Ukraine and now live in Krzyżowa will be employed as teaching assistants. Thanks to that, children will feel more comfortable being able to communicate in their own language.

It has already been a month since Russia attacked Ukraine. We have been hosting people fleeing the war in Krzyżowa for three weeks. At the moment, almost 100 people are staying in Krzyżowa, half of them are children and youth.

We are very happy that on Monday, our school age guests started their education in Primary School in Grodziszcze and in First High School in Świdnica. All new pupils and students are very happy with how their first days in Polish school went. We would like to thank the management and teachers of both institutions as well as the students for their warm welcome, which was very important for our Ukrainian guests.

Once again, we would also like to thank our sponsors and donors for the school kits, which made it possible for the children to start this new stage at school without any problems.

The war in Ukraine is in its fifth day. Several hundred thousand refugees are fleeing from Russian aggression. They seek protection and help in neighbouring countries, including Poland.

We, the team of the Krzyżowa Foundation, see no other way than to provide support to people who have been separated from their families, deprived of their homes, work and the slightest sense of security. We know that the help we offer must be well thought-out and systemic, because we do not know how long the humanitarian crisis connected with the war will last and what actions will be taken by other entities. Therefore, with full engagement, in consultation with the provincial and district authorities and the Świdnica Municipality, we are working out an action plan that will allow us to make the most of our resources and experience. We are happy that also our partner organisations from Germany: The Freya von Moltke Foundation and the Kreisau-Initiative Association are ready to get involved in the aid we organise for people fleeing Ukraine.

Today (24.02.2022) Russia attacked Ukraine, our Neighbours, Friends, Co-workers and Associates, Families of people who are dear to us. We are shocked and moved by this situation.

We are also thinking of our Friends, Partners in Russia, who are working for peace, but live in a country that is conducting a war. We remember our Friends in Belarus, who look on with dismay as their country collaborates in this aggression. We think of the citizens of those societies who want peaceful coexistence, freedom and independence, but find themselves faced with war.

We feel powerless when confronted with such unjustified aggression. And we want to help. How?
