The week just passed was decidedly more peaceful and reflective. On Monday, the last Easter holiday was celebrated in the Catholic Church and some of our guests are now preparing to celebrate Easter according to the Julian calendar. At this special time, the thoughts of all of us are focused on the dramatic events in Ukraine. We wish each other peace, health and safety. We are very happy that more people from Ukraine, who are staying in Krzyżowa, find work. This is very important for our guests. We intensively help and support families staying with us in their efforts to gain independence and self-reliance.

The week before Easter was very intensive for our guests from Ukraine. Last Friday, children and their parents took part in a concert "Children to Children", organized by Świdnica's Youth Culture Centre. On Saturday, there was an Easter fair in nearby Pszenno, during which we presented baked goods and Easter decorations prepared by Ukrainian ladies living in Krzyżowa. On Wednesday, children and their mothers took part in a trip to Wrocław ZOO. There was a lot going on and we will tell you more about these events in the next reports. All these attractions were a great joy for the youngest and a break from everyday worries for the adults.
There are still almost 100 people staying in our centre. Many of the formalities related to the stay of refugees in Poland have already been completed, but we continue to support new families coming to us in official matters. We continue our educational programme and afternoon activities for children and young people who attend schools and kindergartens during the day. We organise all the necessary equipment for the families staying with us and help them to become self-sufficient. We know how difficult this time is for all those who find themselves in our centre.

This week, our guests from Ukraine spent a lot of time completing formalities related to their stay in Poland - with the help of our employees and volunteers, they finalized their application for a PESEL number. We also helped them to contact the bank, thanks to which many of them managed to open accounts. While parents were busy with official matters, the children were taken care of - they participated in sports and integration activities. We are continuing our programme of afternoon workshops for children and young people.
We are very happy that people from Ukraine who stay with us are finding their way better and better to the Polish reality. Adults find work, children go to school and kindergarten. We strongly encourage our guests in their efforts to gain self-sufficiency. Two families became so independent that they left our centre to live in rented flats. They were replaced by others who now need support.

On Sunday, the Head of the Świdnica Municipality, Teresa Mazurek, and the Mayor of Lampertheim, Gottfried Stőrmer, visited Krzyżowa. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Robert Żurek, managing director of the Krzyżowa Foundation and Anita Kończewska, assistant of the management board.
The delegation from the German partner municipality came to Poland with material and financial support. Inhabitants and social organizations from Lampertheim prepared gifts for Ukrainian citizens affected by the armed conflict, who have been living in the Świdnica municipality for a month. In addition to the material support, Mayor Stőrmer handed over a cheque for €11,750 to Mayor Teresa Mazurek on the steps of the Krzyżowa palace. This amount is to be used by the municipality to support Ukrainian citizens.
