We invite you to watch the documentary "Invaders Despite Their Will. Polish participation in the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968", which is now available on YouTube.

The film is based on interviews with witnesses of time: Polish soldiers who took part in the intervention of the Warsaw Pact troops in Czechoslovakia in August 1968, and Czechs who watched their dreams of building socialism with a human face fall. It tells about the way Poles perceived their participation in the military intervention and about the reactions of the Czechs.

On 11-14 November, we hosted a group of teachers from Germany and Poland in Krzyżowa, who worked together on scenarios for workshops used during Polish-German youth exchanges. The meeting took place within a project "Lernort Kreisau" and was organised by Bayerische Landeszentrale für politische Bildungsarbeit.

Employees of the Krzyżowa Foundation supported participants in terms of subject matter, sharing their experiences from work with young people and Polish-German groups.

On 12 October, the Lower Silesian Film Centre in Wrocław hosted a special screening of the film 'Invaders Despite Their Will. Poland's involvement in the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia". The event was attended by 50 people - students and teachers from the XIII High School in Wroclaw. The young people also took part in a debate in which Katarzyna Kaczorowska and Aureliusz Marek Pędziwol talked about whether the past is an obstacle in forming neighbourly relations.

The event was organised by the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and the Paweł Włodkowic Institute as part of the project "Festival of unSettled Ideas" which is being carried out in Poland, Germany and Romania within the “Europe for Citizens. Strand 1 European Remembrance” programme and is co-financed by the European Commission.

The Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe together with the centre 'Memory and Future' are carrying out a project for historical education 'Closer to modern history of the region' for secondary schools in the districts of Świdnica and Wrocław.

During the project, students will participate in workshops on the history of Lower Silesia after 1945, during which the main focus will be on presenting the first post-war years, the history of the first Polish settlers and the action of "polonisation" of space and stories about the past of the Western Territories. After the workshops, the students will visit the Centre of History "Zajezdnia", where they will be able to see the permanent exhibition "Wrocław 1945-2016", telling the story of the post-war life of the city and its inhabitants.
