19th East-West European Memorial Meeting Kreisau
30 March to 2 April 2022
Remember - tell - share
Eyewitnesses in memorial work
We cordially invite you to this year's East-West European Memorial Meeting from March 30 to April 2, 2022 in Krzyzova/Kreisau. We, the team of organizers, have been thinking for a long time: At first, we were unsure whether we could hold the meeting because of Corona. Now the Russian invasion of Ukraine raises further big question marks.
Despite the tense situation, we decided to hold our meeting just now. We therefore invite historians, students, staff of memorial sites, contemporary witness projects, museums, and NGOs to a pan-European exchange of experiences and ideas in Kreisau. As before, the meeting will be simultaneously interpreted into Polish, Russian, English and German.
Our planned theme revolves around the historical work with contemporary witnesses - and the question of what will change in the discourse of remembrance if one day there is no one left who can authentically testify to the crimes of the 20th century. Now we ourselves have become eyewitnesses of a war - from a distance or as those directly affected. We believe that an exchange about this is necessary and we would like to give you the opportunity in Kreisau to get to know the perspectives of others and to discuss chances for peace. Last but not least, we are looking for answers to the question of how we can support our partners in Ukraine. And - this should also not be forgotten - what we should do for the employees of Memorial in Russia, who have often been guests in Kreisau and with whom we have close contacts.
The Memorial meeting will be held in Kreisau (Krzyzowa) from March 30 to April 2, 2022.
