Our Foundation, in cooperation with the "Pamięć i Przyszłość” Center, is launching a new educational project, entitled "Perhaps returning to Europe is too weak a term... Poland on the Road to NATO and the European Union. The history and significance of the 1989-2004 transition.

The anniversaries of the landmark events that decided the shape and position of modern Poland, which fall this year - the 35th anniversary of the June elections, the 25th anniversary of Poland's joining NATO and the 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union - are an opportunity to take a fresh look at the transformations that took place over those crucial 15 years (1989-2004) and to bring this knowledge closer to the widest possible groups of young people and adults.

The 15 years between the June elections in 1989 and Poland's accession to the European Union in 2004 were a period not only of overcoming the communist legacy and rebuilding the country, but also a time of intense international efforts to make Poland part of Europe again. Particularly today, with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine underway, the question of the long-term consequences of the choices made by Polish women and men should be the subject of deeper reflection. For it is these that define our place in Europe today and will determine our security.

As part of the project, we plan to:

  • the organization of two debates: in Boleslawiec, the city to which in 2023. Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe awarded the prestigious Prize of Europe, and in Wroclaw.
  • organization of a seminar for female teachers in Krzyzowa (October 11-13 - registration will be announced soon)
  • preparation of educational materials to support the work of female and male teachers (including a lesson plan, a historical essay introducing the events in question, and a podcast with the participation of experts).

More information on the various activities of the project will be forthcoming.
