The VI Lower Silesian Civic Congress took place on 27 October in Krzyżowa. Once again, representatives of non-governmental organisations gathered in the largest hall of the venue. Approximately 200 people listened to opening speeches and guests' speeches, and then took part in thematic panels.
Krzyżowa has been hosting a congress for representatives of the third sector in our region for several years now. This year, the motto of the meeting was "New reality - new perspective. The congress was officially opened by Maria Mika, president of the Lower Silesian Federation of NGOs, Robert Żurek, PhD, managing director of "Krzyżowa" Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and Cezary Przybylski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship
The opening speech, delivered by Patrycja Matusz, PhD - Professor at the University of Wrocław, focused on new challenges faced by both society and NGOs in the context of migration.
The challenges and crises affecting various spheres of social life were also discussed by the panellists:
- Dr Marta Jaskulska, President of the Union of Associations "Congress of Urban Movements"
- Roman Szełemej, Mayor of Wałbrzych
- Sabina Lubaczewska, Vice-President of the Foundation for Sustainable Development
- Robert Drogoś, President of the Disaster and Emergency Centre "Tratwa"
- Waldemar Weihs, Chairman of the Lower Silesian Council for Public Benefit Activity
The discussion was moderated by Małgorzata Waszkiewicz, a journalist at Radio TOK FM.
In the second part of the congress, 11 thematic panels were held, to which participants could sign up in advance. Thus, in smaller groups, issues related to the migration crisis, the climate crisis, good practices related to the fight against pandemics and the cooperation between NGOs and business were discussed, as well as possibilities of obtaining financial support for ngo's. One of the panels was devoted to young activists and their ideas for dealing with the new reality.
