On 14.06 we launched a new project with the graceful name "Gardens at schools as a tool for community education, integration and adaptation."
The project is about establishing gardens, food production, our food habits, as well as recreational, artistic and therapeutic values. We passed the time getting to know each other's students, teachers and parents from the Elementary Schools of Lutomia Dolna, Grodziszcz and Witoszow Dolny, where educational gardens will be created.
We headed out into the field to walk the route from the main facility to the House on the Hill in search of medicinal herbs, as well as edible plants commonly known as weeds, during a herbal workshop led by Aneta Zabrzewska (Ziołowa Pracownia).
Educators from EkoCentrum Wrocław Aneta Osuch and Arkadiusz Wierzba led a workshop for us, where we looked at how what we eat affects the environment, including climate and biodiversity. We addressed the issues of: deforestation, food-miles and packaging, and how to reduce them. We used web applications to do this, allowing participants to work in an active way, sharing ideas for their own actions as food consumers and the school community.
For a while, we also played the role of visionaries and garden designers, to design our own, future-school garden, meeting the needs of future caregivers and users of future-school garden space, based on the assumption of the ecological educational garden in Krzyzowa.
The next activities, already on the premises of the aforementioned Schools, will begin from September this year.
Meanwhile... Welcome summer, hurrah vacation, we wish you wonderful adventures!
