From 31 August to 4 September, the 21st Polish-German Summer Academy "Mutual Understanding Beyond Borders: Patterns and Experiences" took place in Krzyżowa. It was organised by the Catholic Academy in Berlin in cooperation with the Institute of Political Science and Administration of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and the Province of the Pallottine Society in Warsaw.
For the organisers, it was crucial to jointly promote meetings and discursive exchange between students from Germany and Poland, while the meeting was inspired by the church tradition of efforts for reconciliation and the involvement of the young generation, inspired by Christian social ethics.
The project started 20 years ago as an exchange of potential candidates for the priesthood in order to overcome prejudices, and today it aims to establish contacts between students from both countries and a permanent focus on German-Polish relations and the German-Polish tradition of reconciliation.
During the four-day meeting, the participants had the opportunity to take part in many activities and lectures, including with representatives of the Krzyżowa Foundation: Dr. Robert Żurek, Managing Director and member of the Board of the Krzyżowa Foundation, and Dominik Kretschmann, the head of the Memorial Site.
