Between September 24th and 26th, Krzyżowa hosted educational workshops of the "Monuments of Remembrance 1918-2018" project.

During the workshops, young people who have participated in the project since the beginning of this year, took part in workshops devoted to civic education and listened to lectures on collective memory, conflicts of memory, attitudes towards foreign cultural heritage and, on the example of decommunization in Poland, the difficult process of settling accounts for the relics of the past.

During the workshops, participants had the opportunity to listen to the following speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Stanisław Rosik (Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław): "Why do societies remember?";
  • Dr. Łukasz Kamiński (Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław, Paweł Włodowic Institute): "Conflicts of the memory in contemporary Europe. What is the consequence of the historical policy for the average citizen?";
  • Prof. Dr. Adriana Merta Staszczak (Study of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Wrocław University of Technology): "An unwanted legacy. The fate of monuments in the Western Territories after 1945";
  • Dr. Grzegorz Waligóra (Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance in Wrocław): "Decommunization of monuments in Poland after 1989. Example of Lower Silesia".

The workshops were attended by 150 people from Poland, Germany, and Ukraine.

The goal of the project is to bring closer the changes that take place in the collective memory of the nations of Central and Eastern Europe. Project is implemented as a part of the Europe for Citizens program (component: Remembrance about Europe's past).

The partners of the "Krzyżowa" Foundation in the project are: Institute of Paweł Włodkowic (Poland), Post Bellum (Slovakia), Centrum pro dokumentaci totalitnich rezimu, z.s. (Czech Republic) and Fundatia Academia Civica (Romania).

During the educational activities of the project, the partner of the Krzyżowa Foundation is the 13th High School in Wrocław.
