The last screening of the Outdoor Cinema this summer is ahead of us. It will take place again on the pitch in Komorów - next Friday from 19.00. The program will include films for children and something for older viewers - we invite them to 8.30 pm.
The previous screening in Komorów was so popular with children that the organizers decided to change the program and dedicate the entire evening to young viewers, presenting only films for children. So it was not possible to see "The Dessmaker” directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse. This arrears will be made up next Friday, and the screening for children, so as not to leave them unsatisfied, will be extended to 90 minutes.
40 years ago, the free trade union Solidarity was founded. A peaceful mass movement that brought the communist regime in Poland to its knees, making a major contribution to overcoming real socialism throughout Eastern Europe. Its legacy remains valid, especially in the face of the multiple crises of our times.
The crew of the Lenin Shipyard in Gdańsk showed great courage by interrupting their work on 14 August 1980. In the communist 'working countries', strikes were forbidden, and speaking out against the policy of the authorities was not tolerated. Many of the strikers still remembered the workers' protests that had been bloody suppressed ten years earlier in Gdańsk and other cities on the Polish coast. They accounted for 41 dead, 1 164 wounded and more than 3 000 arrested.
The Krzyżowa Foundation, as part of the "Together we will do more" project, is implementing a project called "Outdoor Cinema". The project is financed by the EU as part of initiatives for the employment of young people and is implemented in partnership with the Karkonoski Sejmik Osób Niepełnosprawnych from Jelenia Góra and Acsm sp.z o.o. from Wrocław.
From December 2019 to July 2020, a group of 40 young people from Lower Silesia developed their social competences during training courses in Krzyżowa and Jelenia Góra. The acquired theory, which is trained in the workshops, is strengthened by the voluntary activities of the project participants for the benefit of the local community. The coronavirus pandemic forced us to review our plans, but it didn't stop us from acting. Sewing protective masks, collecting materials for radio broadcasts, helping those in need in providing them with the necessary means of living during quarantine was a real training for the participants in project work. The organization of outdoor film screenings in Krzyżowa and Komorów is the last task of our volunteers under the project.
From 16 August to 23 August, a magical meeting of children from Poland and Germany took place at the International Youth Meeting Center in Krzyżowa. It was our next summer project addressed to a group of participants aged 8-12.
Together with the children, we tested how to communicate despite language barriers. The magic program was filled with magic games and activities. But the participants also creatively struggled with the question of how they imagine their future, what trust and courage mean.
The children went on a trip in Lower Silesia, and also took part in dance and circus workshops. During the youth meeting, also 8 hours of workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals and artistic workshops as part of the GlobART 2030 project in cooperation with ProgettoMondo Mlal were carried out. The workshop was co-financed by the European Union under the project: “Start the Change! Educational model on global active citizenship to reach the Sustainable Development Goals with a special focus on the relationship between migration and inequality”, Grant: Contract CSO-LA/2017/388-169.
